Edward Blakewell

Next we meet Edward and Harriet (Mawer) Blakewell. Edward was baptised in Sotby on 29 November 1818, son of Robert and Mary Blakewell.  Harriet Mawer was baptised in Little Carlton, Lincolnshire on 15 May 1816.  According to the baptism record, she is a twin.  It looks to me like it says Sarah and Harriet, son and daughter.  Living with the couple in 1841 was a 5 year old called Charlotte Dunhome who I have yet to identify.  Edwards parents, Robert and Mary are living next door.

According to a newspaper snip in the Lincolnshire chronicle and the Stamford Mercury, the couple married at Langton on 13 May 1841.  I haven't been able to confirm this. They welcomed their first child, Lucy who was baptised on 29 August the same year.

The couple had 4 children

Lucy baptised 29 August 1841 (Sotby)
Robert baptised 20 April 1844 (Kirby cum Osgodby)
William - Unable to locate
Harriet baptised 15 December 1850 (Sotby)

According to the GRO website, each child had a different spelling of Harriets maiden name - Mawer/ Murr / Maiver.  The only William was registered in Caistor and the maiden name of mother was Linton.  Not even close.

In 1844 the family was living in South Owersby, Lincolnshire according to Roberts baptism record.  William was born 4 years later and on the 1851 Census his place of birth is Hull, Yorkshire.  By the time Harriet is born in 1850 the family are back in Sotby.

In the 1851 Census the family also have Lucy Mawer with them, she is 79 and is Harriets mum.

After 1851 the trail runs cold.  The family are no longer in Sotby.  I found the death of an Edward Blackwell in 1858 and Harriet Blackbourn in 1859.  No Blakewells.  Also no trace of the children up to 1881.

A mystery for another time.
