Edward Norris

In 1841, Edward and Maryann Norriss lived next door to the Scholey (John) family.

Edward (and his twin Henry) were baptised on May 9, 1808 in Boston, Lincolnshire.  His parents were John & Mary (Hall).

Marianne Richardson was born in 1819 on September 15 and was baptised on September 19 in the parish of Frampton, Lincolnshire. Her parents were John Ireland & Susannah.

Their children are:

Susannah, baptised August 19, 1839, Frithville, Lincolnshire
Edward, baptised April 4 1841, Sotby, Lincolnshire
John Highland (Ireland) Richardson, baptised May 29, 1842, Sotby, Lincolnshire
Ezekiel, baptised  August 13, 1843, Frithville Lincolnshire.
Mary Ireland (Mary Ann in register) baptised August 10, 1845, Watlington, Norfolk
Andrew (Wiggenhall St. Germans, Norfolk) 4Q 1846 Downham Union
*Arthur, baptised January 10, 1847,  Watlington, Norfolk
Betsey, baptised November 4, 1849 , Brothertoft, Lincolnshire

The family was in Norfolk by early 1844 and sadly they lost John, who was buried February 25th that year. Susannah, Edward and Ezekiel appear to have been baptised again, on August 10, 1845 along with Mary Ireland.  Edward Snr was listed as a Farming Bailiff, maybe this is why they moved around a little.

*In the Watlington, Norfolk register, I found an Arthur Norris baptised as listed above.  I believe it is actually Andrew.  Andrew is registered in the last quarter of 1846 and therefore baptised early in 1847.

By 1851 the couple had a large family, not all born in Lincolnshire.  Edward is listed as a farmer of 4 acres.  The older children are in School and Andrew is 4 and Betsey 2.  There is also a man aged 32 named Nicholas, listed as 'son'.  He was also living with them in 1841.  **Maybe a brother of Edward? In 1853 the family lost both Ezekiel (10) and Betsy (4).  Ezekiel was buried on December 14 and Betsy on December 20 in the Parish of Frampton, Lincolnshire.

In 1861, Edward, MaryAnn and Andrew are living in Frampton, Lincolnshire.  Edward is a farmer of 10 1/2 acres. Susannah is a servant/nursemaid to a family in Boston.  Edward Jr can be found in Spilsby working as an Agricultural labourer. Mary Ireland has made her way to Middlesex and is a housemaid in Hackney.  **By 1865 Andrew appears to have immigrated to Australia, arriving there on 23 January 1865.  Edward Jr married Henrietta Crawford in 1866.  Edward Sr died in 1869, the death registered in Boston.

In 1871, Mary Ann is now a widow living with Mary Ireland in Wigtoft, Lincolnshire. Mary Ann is listed as an Inn Keeper. Susannah was a housekeeper for a Farmer in Bicker, Lincolnshire.  She married Thomas Rayson in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1872. In 1871 Edward Jr is married and living in Sutterton, Lincolnshire with his wife and 3 children.  He is listed as a Wheelwright.  In 1878 Mary Ireland married Joseph Chapman, a grocer, in the Parish of Corby, Northampton

** Nicholas Norriss was born 13 April 1814 and baptised in Carrington, Lincolnshire on 15 August 1820.  His parents were Edward & Elizabeth.  At the moment Im going to assume that Nicholas and Edward are cousins. In 1861 there appears to be 2 men with the name Nicholas Norris, born approx 1819.  The first Nicholas married Eliza Peach in 1858 in Boston, Lincolnshire.  In 1861 they had 1 child and were living in Boston, Lincolnshire. They had 3 children before he died in 1865 and was buried in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire. The second Nicholas was a lodger in Spilsby with the Simpson family.  At the moment I have no idea which Nicholas Norriss of 1861 is related to the family of Edward.

*** In 1904 Edward Jr placed an advert in the New South Wales Police Gazette looking for his brother Andrew
