This was the first time Migrant Families was offered as part of the Diploma. I believe it was replacing one or both of the Convict Units.
We traced the journeys of our ancestors who migrated to Australia and New Zealand. We found where the best places were to find migration records and how to use them to tell a story. We had to write a non-fiction recount of an individual or family experience of migration.
Being a first generation Aussie on my paternal side and second on my maternal side I had a few migrants to choose from. I eventually settled on my father Michael for the project. Whilst researching I found a lot of information I hadn't known. His Application for an assisted passage to Australia was quite an eye opener.
Some of the resources I used (and what I found there):
UK and Ireland, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980
