John Brown and his wife Dinah (Thompson) lived in Sotby with their first child Thomas. The couple married on 19 February 1839 in Rand cum Fultnetby, Lincolnshire. Dinah was listed as a minor.
John was baptised on 10 December 1814 in Panton, Lincolnshire while Dinah Thompson was born in Sotby and baptised on 7 February 1819. The couple welcomed their first child in Sotby, Thomas was baptised on 17 May 1840.
Their children were Thomas 1840 (Sotby) WIlliam 1843 (Fulnetby) George 1845 (Fulnetby) Mary Ann (1847) Minting and Alfred Harry 1848 (Horsington)
1851 finds the family living in Bucknall, Lincolnshire with John working as a farmers labourer.
