The first family listed inthe 1841 Census for Sotby, Lincolnshire was the Gilberts.
Joseph Gilbert (55) a farmer, Elizabeth (50) Elizabeth (20) and Caroline (20). Joseph was originally from Salmonby, Lincolnshire and Elizabeth (Baker) was from Thornton by Horncastle. In 1841 Joseph was really 55 but Elizabeth was 52.
Joseph and Elizabeth married in St Paul in the Bail, Lincoln on 14 June 1812. As well as Elizabeth and Caroline, the couple had other children.

By 1851 the family had left the village. Joseph had passed away and Elizabeth was living in Benniworth with her daughter Celia - also now a widow - and daughter Julia. In this Census, Celia has 4 children at home and is also listed as a Farmer of 700 acres and 10 labourers.
