Robert Green and his wife Elizabeth (Wainfield) lived in Sotby with 3 of their children. Robert was baptised in St James, Louth on 21 June 1784. Elizabeth was baptised in Sotby on 6 October 1789. I found the maiden name of Elizabeth on her burial entry at Sotby. This particular vicar added a little bit of identifying information occasionally. The couple married on 22 April 1808, St Oswald, Rand, Lincolnshire.
The 4 children I have found were baptised in Sotby:
Robert baptised 3 December 1826
Frances (aka Fanny) bapitesd 4 October 1829
Thirza baptised 4 December 1831
William baptised 22 June 1834
Frances (aka Fanny) bapitesd 4 October 1829
Thirza baptised 4 December 1831
William baptised 22 June 1834
In 1851 Robert & Elizabeth were still in Sotby with Fanny, now a dressmaker, and on the night of the Census, 2 grandsons - Henry Bates, 10 and Henry Green, 5. I have no idea who Henry Bates belongs to as the children I have found so far for Robert and Elizabeth weren't old enough in 1841 to have children of their own. The same goes for Henry Green. As Elizabeth was 37 when she had Robert Jr in Sotby, I can assume they have older children. I will keep looking.
Robert and Elizabeths son Robert jr is a farm servant for the Lacy family in Panton, Thirza is in the Horncastle Union Workhouse, listed as a pauper/house servant. William is a farm servant for the Mawer family in Benniworth.
In 1857 Thirza marries William Cottingham. Robert Jr and Sarah Wells marry in the June quarter of 1852.
1861 Robert and Elizabeth are empty nesters. Robert jr is next door with his wife Sarah and 4 children plus Roberts nephew Joseph has moved back to the village. I am unable to locate Fanny. Thirza is in Dunholme, Lincolnshre with William and their family.
Robert Green passed away and was buried on 22 April 1869 in Sotby.
In 1871 Elizabeth is with the Green family in Myton, Yorkshire and listed as mother. This was my first clue that there was missing older children. I will go back and look again for the marriage of Robert and Elizabeth plus older children.
Elizabeth died in 1878. In the burial register of Sotby, the Vicar has writeen 'Swinderby formerly Sotby (Wainfield) 6 October 1789'.
