William Hildridge

William and Sophia (Bingham) Hildridge married on 2 September 1816 in Thimbleby, Lincolnshire.  Sophia was from there but William was listed as being from Sotby.  Also the spelling of the surname was Eldridge in the register.  This couple were tricky as there were different variations of their surname - Eldridge / Hildridge and Hildred.

Their children were:

William Eldrige baptised 6 January 1818, Thimbleby, Lincolnshire. Buried 11 July 1819, Thimbleby
David Hildred baptised 18 October 1819 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Sophia Hildred baptised 10 June 1821 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Thomas Hildred baptised 8 February 1823 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
James Hildred baptised 16 May 1824 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Sarah Hildred baptised 13 August 1826 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire. Buried 29 January 1846, Sotby
Isaac Hildred baptised 4 May 1828 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Elizabeth Hildred baptised 31 August 1830 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Rebecca Hildred baptised 2 March 1834 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire / Buried 16 March 1834
Jane Hildred baptised 6 May 1836 Thimbleby, Lincolnshire
Diana Hildridge baptised 4 August 1839, Sotby
Ann Hildridge baptised 12 September 1841

Both Diana and Rebecca are listed in the 1841 Census as 2 year olds and it looks like they could be twins, I believe that Rebecca is actually the grandchild of William and Sophia, daughter of their eldest daughter Sophia.

In 1851 William and Sophia have only 1 child at home, Ann.  They also have their 5 year old grandaughter Sarah who I think is Sophia (jr)s second child.  Their son David (Hildridge) and his wife have moved to Sotby with their 4 children and live nearby.  Their son Thomas (Hildred) is a Waggoner and lives in Sotby as a servant with the Stovin family.  His sister Elizabeth (Hildred) (aka Betsey) is also in this household as a house servant.  I believe Sophia (jr) had 3 illegitamate children - Rebecca 1839, Sarah 1844 and Jane 1852.

Sadly, Sophia (snr) died in 1860 and was buried on 23 July in Sotby.

In 1861 William was still in Sotby.  His son Thomas and daughter Ann, listed as housekeeper, were now living with him. Grandaughter Jane was also there.  Grandaughter Sarah is now working for a neighbour Lucy Baggaley as a house servant.  Son David is still nearby, now with 2 more children.  Sadly Grandaughter Jane died in 1863 and was buried 8 October.  William himself passed away in 1868 and was buried on 23 February.
